Why is on-site wastewater disposal required?
As the majority of the Tasman Municipality is not connected to the reticulated sewerage system, all waste water must be treated and disposed of within the confines of the property boundaries.
There are a number of different options available that can be utilised such as aerated waste water treatment, septic tanks, wastewater treatment plants and composting toilets.
For existing dwellings with on-site waste water systems, Council keeps detailed drainage plans to assist in locating on-site wastewater drainage system. It should be noted that these records do not exist for many older properties.
Please note that the installation of an on-site waste water system must only occur after a Plumbing Permit has been applied for and approved by Council.
