The The Tasman Council commenced the Tasman Economic Development Strategy (EDS) process in 2023. SGS Economics & Planning in conjunction with REALM Studios and Irene Inc Planning were the selected consultants to prepare the region’s Economic Development Strategy 2025 inclusive of conducting community and council consultation.
The EDS provides a strategic framework and clear directions for how Council will work alongside local business, industry groups, strategic regional partnerships and other levels of government to grow the economy for the benefit of the local community in the years to come. It is supported by the previously distributed Tasman Region Discussion Paper and the Tasman Structure Plan Background Report. The EDS is a long-term guiding document, with focus on foundational themes and overarching objectives, that includes a monitoring and evaluation framework to track progress.
The EDS strives to deliver successful economic outcomes according to five themes:
- Resilient local economy
- Supported primary production
- Open for business
- A complete destination
- Inviting and lively places.
Each objective has a prioritised list of associated actions for the short, medium or long term.
